Long inhabited by the Bushmen of San,
Namibia is a dry arid land consisting of highlands and ancient
deserts. The climate of Namibia ranges from sub tropical to
desert with temperatures of 40oC in the summer!
The country is situated along the Skeleton Coast, next to
the Namib Desert and the Kalahari Desert. The Namib is believed
to be the oldest in desert in the world, existing for over
80 millions years, while the Kalahari Desert is considered
to be one of the world's most beautiful, with its massive
red dunes and unique plant species.
Currently we have volunteer projects working on animal refuges
in central Namibia. Volunteers can help care for baby animals,
thirsty elephants and help out with general maintenance of
the refuge.

for Gap Year Students
For volunteers interested in veterinary medicine
we have a fantastic Volunteer Namibia placement working
with desert elephants. These hardy, secretive creatures travel
across the parched earth looking for watering holes. You will
gain the necessary experience to decide whether this career
is for you, by constructing watering points, building walls
to protect farms and researching herd data. Although to train
for a career as a veterinary nurse you need to be employed
in an approved and registered veterinary practice and be working
towards NVQ levels 2 and 3, veterinary practices will undoubtedly
look favorably on applicants who have taken the initiative
to experience something off the beaten track. Click on the
Volunteer Namibia links above to learn more...
